Empty Bowls
For the past 15 years, Empty Bowls Fort Collins ladles community hope in mid-February for those struggling with hunger in Larimer County. Working to increase awareness of hunger, the event is a major fundraiser for the Food Bank for Larimer County. The event offers guests the opportunity to select a pottery bowl made by students in the Poudre School District or by a local artist and enjoy signature soups provided by area restaurants. In addition to bowls made by students in the Poudre School District, many bowls are created by the artists of the City of Fort Collins’ Pottery Studio and the Northern Colorado Pottery Guild. These bowls are included as guest bowl selections and as silent auction items for bid.
"Thank you so much for participating again in Empty Bowls. The event generated $57,000 to support the Food Bank for Larimer County. The number of clients seeking food assistance has increased dramatically in the past year so we are especially grateful for your role in helping us respond to the demand." -Excerpt from a letter from Heather Hallett Thurstin (Restaurant Coordinator), March 3, 2009-
